Cataloger

Media Selector Services component. Responsible for storing and manipulating media file metadata.

Combined Delivery (CD)

DRM mechanism, defined by OMA, that delivers the content and rights objects together in a single message.

content

For this document, digital information stored in various types of files, that is, what's in a file.

Content Consumer

Application or service that consumes DRM content.

content management

The set of mechanisms and processes used to create, maintain, manipulate, and manage digital content through its life cycle.

Content Management Framework

ACCESS Linux Platform framework, a collection of mechanisms and APIs, provided for applications developers to manage files and content.

Content Provider

Application or service that provides DRM content.

data model (DML)

Cataloger-maintained database that provides a public interface to the metadata stored by Media Selector Service

DCF

DRM Content Format, defined by OMA; format and file type for DRM-protected media files.

digital media

Electronic media used to store, transmit, and receive digitized information.

Digital Rights Management (DRM)

Access control technologies used by copyright holders to limit usage and distribution of digital media.

Extractor

A plug-in (an ALP bundle) that extracts metadata associated with a particular media format from a file and records it in the Media Selector metadata databases.

file manager

Application that provides an interface to find, select, operate on, and interact with files in a file system.

Forward Lock (FL)

DRM mechanism, defined by OMA, that delivers the DRM message containing only the content while the device applies default rights. This prevents the content from working when copied to any other device.

mediacatd

Cataloger daemon.

Media Selector Services

ACCESS Linux Platform component. Collections of process and APIs that manage lists of media files.

metadata

In general, data about data. For Media Selector Services, data about attributes associate with file formats, used to categorize, sort, filter, match, and select media files stored on the device or storage cards.

meta database

For Cataloger, a database for metadata storage, a metadata database.

mountpoint neutral location indentifier (URL)

Identifier for a virtual path that locates a file when the actual path can change in terms of mount point.(on card) are available. For example, between card insertions, the actual path to a particular file might be different because cards get different mount point names. The URL keeps a persistent record of the file's location.

multimedia

Media communications that incorporate multiple forms of information content and processing.

Multimedia framework

ACCESS Linux Platform component. Collection of mechanisms and APIs, provided for applications developers to manage multimedia—display, playback, capture, and record multimedia file types.

OMA DRM v1.0

DRM specification from OMA with which ACCESS Linux Platform digital rights management services comply.

Open Mobile Alliance (OMA)

Open Mobile Alliance, a standards body which develops open standards for the mobile phone industry.

Rights Object (RO)

Object, associated with DRM content, that contains the permissions and conditions for accessing the content.

Separate Delivery (SD)

DRM mechanism, defined by OMA, that delivers the content and rights object in separate messages.

SQL Abstraction Layer (SAL)

Hiker component. Provides an applications interface to underlying database systems.

Super-distribution

DRM mechanism, defined by OMA, that distributes encrypted content over unprotected transport, while receivers can obtain rights objects through separate trusted distributor.

trusted application

Software 'trusted' to abide by a security policy and validated as trustworthy (by its source).

untrusted application

Software that cannot be validated as trustworthy (by its source).

Vault Service

Hiker component. Provides basic Encryption/Decryption and Key Management functionality for the ACCESS Linux Platform, for the protection of Cryptographic keys, passwords, confidential settings and data. Vault Service provides storage for DRM rights objects.

Volume Services

Hiker component. Provides a simple way to deal with devices, plug-in cards, and other dynamically mounted media.
