installing JVM on Palm 755 2008/03/25 01:35 Karma: 0
New here, so apologies if I don't follow all the proper rules .

I've been trying to install Opera Mini on my Treo 755, but it requires the WebSphere JVM. IN January 08, Palm stopped supporting this program on the 755 plus the Sync program doesn't work with Vista, so I had to download all kinds of other programs such as Palm Vista Simple Installer. Now it seems like I am missing a file called j9pref.prc that apparently is only available on this site with the SDK. I downloaded the SDK but no such luck... Can someone point me to the right place or send me a link?

Thanks much!

Michael

yes you are right
you might be downloaded this vm from one link provided in palm's website forums

but it also does not contain this file
which is useful for java development

i think it is not free right now
if we want full weme then we have to purchase

May be getting ahead of myself but with the open sourcing of JavaME (see phoneME), there is now a possible opportunity to port to Garnet OS as a reference implementation.

Anyone interested in helping out, speak up.

If there is interest at Access, maybe they could also be involved in the open source community project in the works.

I am not sure how Access existing Java ME product would compare except to say that it could still be the commerical optimized version.

I should point out this is targeting the Garnet OS not Linux based OS solutions for Palm.

There is now an enhancement ticket open for phoneME on Garnet for an open source version of phoneME.
