The End of Palm PDA? 2008/03/28 04:50 Karma: 0
I am looking at Palm's store online and I see it is down to 3 models of PDAs and they are all about 2 years of age or more.

I am wanting to develop an application that will need the use of Wi-Fi & Blue Tooth. I see the Palm T|X is the only model left to have that.

Is the end, or do I need to move along to other's PDAs/Pocket PCs using Windows Mobile?

Palm has financial problems right now a lot of mlns $ of debt, they are developing PalmOS II.
If you want to start using Palm, with Garnet OS onboard, as organizer it is the best choice you can make, but if you want a highly technological device, based on Microsoft Windows Mobile is a good choice.
As to development of application for any OS, register at developers forum, look through how many questions users made and how many answers they got from moderators/supporter(official guys), choose the best.

Thanks for the info.

That is all I need to know.

Myself, I just cannot risk putting a lot of time into something that may not exist in the next coming year.

Maybe all the bugs in the developers kit is what is not helping?

I installed the Window Mobile development kit for Mobile and it was flawless.

I also ran the Android developers kit which is based on the same Eclipse platform.

Again, flawless.

It really depends on the target market for your application. If you're looking at vertical/industrial use, the Janam XP30 (PalmOS 5.4.9) barcode scanning handheld has Bluetooth and WiFi, colour screen, numeric keyboard, etc. Industrial/vertical customers are looking for solid devices with product life cycles of 5+ years, unlike consumer level devices/customers.

Thanks for that info. I never knew other parties made devices for Palm OS. That is something I am exactly looking for.

Now I wonder if the Linux SDK is better than the Windows one. Seems I am not the only person with the Windows SDK.
