JVM 2008/05/02 07:35 Karma: 0
Would like to download JVM for Palm OS, specifically to run on Zire 72 in order to run Opera Mini. Can I get this from Access?

Would appreciate any help you can provide.

Thanks.

As far as I can tell, it is no longer available. Access has let it's licensing with IBM expire.

I found Websphere Everyplace Micro Environment v5.7.1 as a free download at Softonic.
http://websphere-everyplace-micro-environment.en.softonic.com/palm

On the IBM website I saw they have evaluation versions of 6.1.1.

Would either of these versions be what is needed for developing Java applications for a Palm OS?

The JVM is for running Java ME.

You can develop with

Sun Java Wireless Toolkit 2.5.2 for CLDC

However if you look at the web site, it indicates it is a "Partner-provided evaluation platforms".

Translation, you are suppose to get it from Palm, who no longer provides it, due to restrictions causes by Access owned technology used as part of IBMs JVM. It's a strange IBM-Access-Palm relationship that is still unclear fully to me.
