How to use updated garnet os sdk 2008/07/09 09:36 Karma: 0
Hi All,

I like to develop application for Treo 650 with Palm OS Garnet 5.4.8. But my installed Garnet OS Development Suit has default inbuilt sdk.

I have downloaded and installed latest sdk 5.6 for Garnet development from www.accessdevnet.com but how to integrate it with the suit ???

I can not start developing without the matching sdk.

Please anybody help.....

I am using Palm SDK 5.3 for development and I want to update Palm SDK 5.6 but failed. Any idea to update Palm SDK in Garnet OS Development Suite?

You will have to get a recent version of the prc-tools and the SDK.

Once you have them, in a shell, you can then run palmdev-prep.exe which will search for new installs of the SDK and update the compilers configuration to use that as your default compiler.

You might want to look at the prc-tool install instructions for more details.

Hi ebresie,

I have followed your suggestion but it still failed even reinstall the suite.

I have done the following,
1) Uninstall Palm OS Development Suite
2) Install Garnet OS Development Suite
3) Put Palm SDK 5.6 to the default PalmDev (Crogram FilesACCESSGarnet OS Development Suite)
4)Run palmdev-prep successfully
CalmOSCygwinbin>palmdev-prep.exe --default sdk-56

Checking SDKs in /PalmDev
sdk-56 headers in 'Incs', no libraries
sdk-5r4 headers in 'include', libraries in 'lib'

Writing SDK details to configuration files...
...done

6) Import my project
5) But I still got error when compile
m68k-palmos-gcc -c -D__PALMOS__=0x05000000 -I/PalmDev/palmOne_SDK_50 -I"C:/Program Files/ACCESS/Garnet OS Development Suite/PalmOSTools/include/stlport" -O0 -g -fexceptions -UNDEBUG -Wall -palmos5r4 -o src/AppMain.o ../src/AppMain.c

Do you have any idea?

Thanks

You may want to install a new version of cygwin first (the one with GODS is a little older one), install prc-tools, then install GODS, but do not use the default cygwin included with GODS. Say no to that portion.

In a bash shell, you will probably need to mount the /PalmDev directory with where ever you installed it on your Windows drive (mount CalmDev /PalmDev).

Install the SDKs in the /PalmDev, then run the palmdev-prep.

You can try m68k-palmos-gcc -print-search-dirs or m68k-palmos-gcc -progr-name=gcc to see if things are setup properly.

I had to reinstall cygwin, prc-tools, and GODS several times before getting things working initially.

Let me know if that helps.

I have downloaded the latest Cygwin setup.exe and run it with -X parameter, but I could not find the prc-tools packages in Devel category that mentioned in the website. Any idea?

Hi ebresie,

I installed the cygwin, prc-tools, GODS finally. I was missed the download site http://prc-tools.sourceforge.net/install

After the installation, I have tried to import my project and compile, got the following error,

Build error
(Exec error:Launching failed)

I believe there is something missing, whats that? Do I need to do some configuration to integrate my custom installed cygwin with GODS?

Thanks again

Finally, all things are working now.

This is my way,
1) Follow ebresie suggestion to install cygwin, prc-tools, GODS
http://prc-tools.sourceforge.net/install/cygwin.html
2) Add C:cygwinbin to Windows path
3) Copy Palm SDK 5.6 - 68k/common/palmOne_68k.h to Crogram FilesACCESSGarnet OS Development Suitesdk-5r4include
4) In Cygwin Shell run 'mount -tf "Crogram FilesACCESSGarnet OS Development Suitesdk-5r4" /PalmDev
4) Run palmdev-prep
5) Import project and compile

Thanks ebresie again

A quick and dirty solution might be to simply drop the files of the SDK into a directory alongside your source files. I'm using this trick in my project. The include statement becomes something like:

#include "PalmSDK/Incs/common/system/HsCreators.h"

Not elegant, but it works.
